Welcome to The art of Jason Cooper —bold, unapologetic, and built for the underground.
Born and raised in the bible belt of Mississippi, Jason Cooper emerged as a maverick artist whose work defied convention and challenged perceptions. Drawing inspiration from a blend of lowbrow aesthetics, dark humor, religious iconography, and psychedelic art, Cooper embarked on a creative journey marked by a relentless pursuit of emotional depth and visual intensity.
From an early age, Cooper harbored a fascination with the interplay between the sacred and the profane, the sublime and the grotesque. This fascination permeates his art, infusing it with a provocative allure that compels viewers to confront the hidden layers of human experience.
Cooper's distinctive style caught the attention of the art world, leading to numerous features in prestigious publications such as Altercation and Tattoo Savage. His work also found its way into celebrated art books, including "The Art of Modern Rock" by Paul Grushkin, "The Art of Electric Frankenstein" by Sal Canzonieri, "Ministry Prescripture" by Aaron Tanner, “Gigposters Volume 2” by Clay Hayes, and "Panda Meat" by Frank Kozik. His art also adorns the front of the MUM building in Meridian, MS in the form of a mural.
His client list reads like a who's who of counter cultural icons, with commissions from the likes of MTV, Dax Riggs, Built to Spill, Meridian Underground Music, Tunnel Skateboards, Suicide Girls, House of Blues, and Signatures Network.
His work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions from Seattle, WA to Philadelphia, PA, which have included
“Grasping at Straws”, “The Meat Annex”, “Artifacts of the Improbable”, “Mundo Gigantico del Rock”, “Complimentary Headache”, and “Graphic Noise”.
At the heart of Cooper's work lies a profound commitment to authenticity and individuality. Rejecting the confines of safe and stagnant art, he blazes his own trail, fearlessly exploring the depths of human psyche and the mysteries of existence. Through his screen-printed posters, illustrations, paintings, and mixed media creations, Cooper invites viewers to embark on a journey of introspection, challenging them to confront the uncomfortable truths that lurk beneath the surface of everyday life.
In a world where conformity reigns supreme, Jason Cooper stands as a beacon of creative defiance, reminding us all of the transformative power of art to provoke, inspire, and enlighten.
